Beyond nation-states, the global policy arena has become increasingly filled with other actors such as international organisations, multinational corporations, corporate elites, international cartels, and advocacy groups; all entities seeking to gain power to 'govern' activity surrounding their issues of concern through economic enterprise, human rights and policy groups. It is to the point that now institutions are debatably challenging nation-states as the primary operators of our global political spectrum. Though oblivious of its serious impacts in their own lives, most of the earth’s citizens are absent of legitimate critical thinking around neoliberalism and neo-conservativism or how much it impacts our lives.
The mediascape has thus suffered in quite an opposite way actually, as it has been globally hijacked by both corporate and government silos, forming an abjectly corrupt, misguided and well funded network giants. Perpetuating ignorance, mainstream media absolutely misses the mark in informing people of valuable information as the important connections between consumer choices and environmental degradation are lost on the majority. In a world of rampant political corruption and increased militarisation, most media outlets serve as a mouthpieces to sway public opinion away from the truth of connectivity and consequence.
